Has anyone here ever been a victim of a PAYPAL Chargeback?

If so, how did it turn out for you?

How long did it take PAYPAL to investigate it?

My paypal account is currently suspended while they investigate a chargeback to my account.  My balance is negative and the only way I can use paypal now is to pay them the amount of the chargeback, which I am refusing to do.  It's total BS.

I had a claim brought against me a while ago and paypal ruled in my favor.  It was a completely bogus claim and I had a ton of proof.  The buyer was not happy with the outcome and had his credit card payment reversed.  From my understanding the only way you can do this is to say that your credit card was stolen and it was charged without your knowledge.  I guess I want to know if this is true.

Also since I won the claim through paypal they say you are 100% covered in case of a chargeback.  However the small print says you must send a signature receipt if the value of the item is over $500, which I didn't do (I did insure the item and had delivery confirmation tracking).  If paypal can't win the case, I'm screwed out of that amount, and I'm out the item, because the buyer has it.

Eric,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.  However, PayPal usually ALWAYS sides with the buyer in this situation.  I have no idea why they require a signature receipt and don't accept delivery confirmation.

This same thing happened to me when I sold a couple of PSA 10 Randy Johnson Rookies a few years back - even though I had Delivery Confirmation proof the cards were delivered, since I didn't have a signature confirmation, I lost and would have been out over $200 plus the cards.  However, I simply closed my bank account down for that PayPal account b/c I didn't want the crook to get away without paying for the cards I shipped.  This was the only way I could find to not be forced to give the person the money back even though he received the cards.

Hi Eric,

Paypal sucks in these situations because they do side with the buyer the majority of the time.  The guy that used the CC company to get his money back is now probably blacklisted, they greatly frown on resorting to that.

I am not a big fan of Paypal but until there is a viable competitor they are an almost necessary evil.

Good luck,

Lee

Normally they do side with the buyer.  However, when we went through the paypal Resolution center, they actually sided with me.  So the buyer went to his credit card company and had the charge reversed.  I called paypal, and they said they were on my side on this.....though how much I believe this I don't know.

Thanks Lee for the wish of good luck.  I need it.

If I resort to cancelling my PAYPAL account, how easy is it to get a new one?  Isn't it easy for them to catch on?

Whatever happens, I'll keep you guys informed.
